What is your tolerance for natural disaster risk? Every location represents a set of tradeoffs. Based on this map, are you going to move to South Dakota? Now, the New York Times could have contrasted the U.S total deaths in auto accidents each year relative to the U.S total deaths from natural disasters. Are "man made" accidents more tolerable than deaths from natural disasters? I believe that roughly 50,000 people die each year in auto crashes while I would guess that in a typical year in the U.S that 100 people die in natural disasters. This has been an outlier year.
